Don't Talk About It, Be About It!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

While many people look at this holiday weekend as family barbecues, the beginning of summer, great shopping deals, and the like, we must remember what it really represents: the commemoration of all those who have died defending our freedom in this country.

Since these men and women are not here to thank directly, I would like to say “Thank you, and I appreciate your sacrifice” to them by thanking and recognizing their families who survive them.

Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to remember the people who have died defending our freedom here in the United States.

In the midst of political, racial, and social division, we have lost sight of what unites all the people in this country: freedom. And that freedom is represented in our flag.

Think about it, what other country is it actually legal to burn the flag?

I think that act is treacherous, but one's ability and right to do it are completely legal.

Same goes for criticizing our leaders. In other nations, you can be killed for speaking out against the leadership.

Our men and women who have died to give us, and protect our, freedom are the greatest heroes.

They don't just talk about the ideals of freedom. They fought for it. They died for it.

It reminds me of The Battle at Helm's Deep in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The enemy is breaching the walls, which were seen as impenetrable, and the king and some of the lead soldiers are retreating into the caves.

Aragorn is urging the king to take action and not give up. Aragorn says, “You said this fortress would never fall while your men defend it! They still defend it! They have died defending it!”

In other words, don't talk about it be about it!

A college friend and mentor of mine introduced me to this slogan in a campus organization we were a part of. It was even printed on our group's shirts.

The greatest example of don't talk about it, be about it is found in Jesus.

Jesus did not simply talk about love, grace, and forgiveness. He lived for it. He died for it.

Because you and I ruined the relationship God intended for us to have with Him, Jesus was sent to rebuild access to God.

He was ridiculed, mocked, beaten, and killed for it.

The crazy thing is He didn't stay dead. He rose from the dead.

Then He gave us the decision to accept this gift or not, but He covered it for every single person in the entire world who has ever lived or ever will live. Now, it is on us as individuals to choose Him or not.

Our society is saturated with causes, movements, and talk, and I encourage you to be part of the greatest cause ever! The cause of Jesus – and making His story known.

You see being a follower of Jesus is way more than intellectual knowledge. It is about life lived with Him. It is about being unified with other Jesus followers all over the world.

So, on this Memorial Day weekend consider being remembered for not just talking about Jesus, but living with Him and for Him. Remember “Don't just talk about it, BE ABOUT IT!”

Anyway, I was just thinking...
